Prez Sayz:

Do you feel like I'm always asking you to do something? You may be right, but it is my job to do so. That's why the job of President lasts only one year and rotates among members, to allow the person in office to devote him/herself to guiding the Club. I'm proud to be the leader you chose, and I'll do my best to listen to the suggestions of each member on how to improve. Communication is everything. Please feel free to voice your concerns.

We have two main goals to keep working on through the months of February and March: membership and fundraising.

Membership: The absolute best thing you can do for the Club is to invite a guest; we can't buy members. Please take the time to think of someone to invite. My gratitude goes to Jerry who brought a guest to the meeting last week, and who has ensured great programs this past month so that we could feel confident in bringing guests to an interesting lunch. Thanks to Jerry, and to Phil, we will continue to have a speaker at each of the meetings throughout the months of March and April as well.

Fundraising: Please solicit a donation from at least two businesses or solicit a corporate sponsorship for our Cioppino Night Fundraiser. Don't rest the burden on Jon, we need more than last year. I would like to offer Gift Baskets of goods and services as well as big items if possible. If you can't think of how to approach your target candidate, call me and I'll work with you on a method. I also have a sample pitch letter that you can personalize.

Good Luck! and Thank You.

Yours in Exchange,

Lori Formusa

The Exchange Club

Covenant of Service

Accepting the divine privilege, of single and collective responsibility as life's noblest gift, I covenant with my fellow Exchangites:

To consecrate my best energies to the uplifting of Social, Religious, Political and Business ideals;

To discharge the debt I owe to those of high and low estate who have served and sacrificed that the heritage of American citizenship might be mine;

To honor and respect law, to serve my fellow men, and to uphold the ideals and institutions of my Country;

To implant the life-giving, society-building spirit of Service and Comradeship in my social and business relationships;

To better serve in Unity with those seeking better conditions, better understanding and greater opportunities for all.

Announcements

President Dick Freeman will be our special speaker on March 5th. He will discuss "A Solution to the Mystery of the Disappearance of Amelia Earhart." We would also like to invite all other
clubs to join us.
Change in March 12 meeting location:
An excellent suggestion from Phil and Rob will be tested on March 12 - to try out the food and ambience of a new meeting location: the Shark & Rose, on San Pedro across from the parking garage. The benefits include an approx $10 reduction in weekly lunch costs and larger, more varied menu choices each week. The problem may be the noise factor. SOOO, let's try out the new place, en masse! Don't let the decision be made without your input
Nominations for Exchangite of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award. Recognition for outstanding contributions is an important element for personal growth. Every local club has Exchangites who deserve such recognition. The criteria, process, and forms are in the District Trophies and Awards Booklet and on the district web sit. Please complete a nomination form for your most deserving Exchangites. They are due in May, but start working on them now. Don't forget about our Associate Membership. Associate members only pay $10.00 per month, plus $20.00 for any lunch attended. This will enable new members, who may not be able to attend luncheons very often, to still enjoy the benefits of Exchange
The Regional Meeting in Reno is taking place March 1-2. Sign up sheets are available on the internet at: www.sjexchangeclub.com/Reg1Conf.pdf There will be a District Board meeting in the morning on Sunday, March 3, 2002 Search for Talent. The clock is running and it's time to put the finishing touches on your local club contests. Remember, there are a lot of details to take care of, and the contestants need plenty of time to plan their schedules. The District Search for Talent Booklet is on the district web site. Any questions should be directed to Linda Owens - 310.828.2674 or Marilyn Kohler - 949.830.4187
Candidates for District Office. The district organization's fundamental purpose is to provide the guidance and mentoring wherever it may reside within the district. To administer this provisioning process, the district needs motivated, dedicated, experienced Exchangites to serve as facilitators in the divisional areas and as officers of the district organization. To be a candidate for a district office to be elected at the District convention in June, an Exchangite need only satisfy the prerequisites and conditions outlined in Article X of the Bylaws, and forward their name to Ed Harvey or Rick Gordon, by May 20th. A form for a suggested candidate to complete is on the district web site. Check out our website to see the work of Diane Lopez, our new Webmaster.
Let Diane know of any suggestions or comments: dzlopez@onebox.com.
Give some thought to what you would like to add to the site. Be sure to let
her know how long it takes you to bring up the site (include the name of
your internet provider and the type of connection you are using).
