Tuesday Luncheons are held at the Hyatt St. Claire, at 302 South Market Street in San Jose.

Lunch is usually on the Second Floor, but check the board in the lobby for the exact room.

Announcements

WE MAY NEED A NEW MEETING PLACE A.S.A.P. -

ALL MEMBERS ARE REQUESTED TO ATTEND LUNCHES . . .

You've heard the expression "Every little Bit Helps"? Well the opposite is true as well. Every little bit can hurt. We got some bad news from St. Claire. Our attendance at weekly meetings has been so low that they are no longer willing to let have the space without a 10 person minimum. They are also raising the cost of the lunch.

Treasurer Robert Nuddleman has been trying to contact Ted at the hotel for some clarification and possible negotiation without success.

In the meantime we need the support of every member to attend our meetings consistently over the next few weeks until we sort this out with the hotel or find a new location. If members have suggestions for other lunch locations, please discuss the options at the next luncheon or contact Rob, Phil or Jerry.

BOARD MEETING CHANGES . . .

The Board Meetings will generally be conducted on the first Tuesday of each month in lieu of the regular speaker meeting. We will be combining the August and September Board Meetings and conduct them together on August 26th. See the schedule of Captains below.

All S.J. Exchange members are encouraged to attend the Board Meetings.

JOHN PLUFF AND THE MOVING VIETNAM MEMORIAL WALL . . .

Our guest speaker last week, John Pluff, is involved in a great project that should interest every patriot member. He formed a committee to install a moving Viet Nam Memorial. At our lunch meeting last week, he inquired regarding our desired participation in the Moving Replica of the Viet Nam War Memorial in Santa Clara's Central Park this September. They need some help with the program, PR, fundraising, information booths and a few other things.

The pictures of the memorial are very impressive and caught the attention of all the members present. You can check out the moving wall at www.themovingwall.org.

We are forming a committee to assist in planning the program for the day. Phil Griego volunteered to be the contact person for the Wall Committee and attend their meetings. Exchangites Nuddleman, Brown, Webb and Hall all volunteered to assist in Program Committee work which will involve getting the music, speakers, pledge invocation, flag retirement if desired and publicity for the opening ceremonies. I know some more of you out there would be interested in helping this effort. Give Phil Griego a call at 408-293-6341.

MEMBERSHIP CONTEST WINNER!

We have an official winner of the membership drive last year. Bonita Gibson brought in two new current members, Jill Rahimi and and Jan Hahn, so she receives dinner for two at the Silicon valley capital Club. Bonita, step up and get your prize.

Phil Griego is offering the same deal for this year. The member who brings in the most new members who remain members by the end of the year will receive dinner for two at the Capital Club. Let's GROW!

NEW CAPTAINS, INVOCATORS AND FINEMASTERS . . . AGAIN!

YES. The list of Captains, Invocators and Finemasters has been changed again and is included with this edition of the Exciter. Please check the schedule to ensure your availability. If you are on deck and cannot attend a meeting, please make arrangements ahead of time to find a replacement. Don't forget to notify Rob Nuddleman about the change so he can update the assignment list.

In an effort to encourage more member involvement and to ease the burden on our President-Elect, Captains are expected to try and find speakers for their appointed day. Captains should coordinate speakers with Jennifer Patrick who will, in turn, notify Rob Nuddleman about the speaker so we can put it in the Exciter.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE VIDEO . . .

The Membership Committee is preparing a video presentation to attract new members and inform the public about some of our wonderful projects. The video will include interviews of members regarding their experiences in the Exchange Club. The video segments will be taped over the next couple of weeks before, during and/or after the regular lunch meeting. If you have not already been videotaped, get ready!

BLUE & GOLD UPDATE . . .

The Blue and Gold Committee will begin meeting in October. Donor letters are scheduled to go out very soon and the invitations will be sent out in September. If you are interested in assisting with the Blue and Gold this year, contact Phil Griego, the program chair.

DEAR SANTA PROJECT NEEDS HELP . . .

Rob Nuddleman needs volunteers to help organize this year's Dear Santa Project. The project needs someone who can make a few phone calls and help with the scheduling. If you want to help make some child's Christmas merry and bright, contact Rob Nuddleman.

SUNSHINE SPECIAL UPDATE . . .

As many of you were aware, the event is a San Jose Giant's baseball game that was scheduled to take place on August 15, 2003. A conflict has arisen and it will be necessary to switch the date to August 7, 2003. The game begins at 7:00 P.M. and dependent upon the number of children attending and their available transportation, we will possibly have a tailgate party prior to the game and/or purchase dinner from the concession stand.

We need to know how many of you will be able to assist with this outing. Contact either Jim Gunderson who is chairing the Sunshine Special Committee or Jerry Hall with your availability to assist. More details will be available by July 31, 2003 and we will keep you posted.
