From Phil’s Desk….

Greetings to all members of San Jose Exchange, especially those new members coming in and soon to be installed. We’ve already accomplished a great deal and I am confident that we will meet and exceed all our goals for my administrative year.

First, our membership is GROWING! despite the sad loss of one of our most valued members, Cathy Keil who moved away. We had two new members join at the end of Immediate Past President Lori Formusa’s term (Jose Posadas and Brenda Biggs joined Diane Lopez as last year’s newest members). The board also approved the applications of THREE MORE Prospective members last week (Ursula Joosten, Jan Hahn, and Harold Wray) That is a net improvement of five members. We look forward to inducting these new members in the near future.

Speaking of membership, raise your hands, how many members have NOT yet brought a prospective member to lunch. I only ask each member to obtain one new member for the entire year. Any one can do that. And there is every reason to share the excitement with other members of the community who are looking for an opportunity to serve our community in fellowship with others.

We have a new and well appointed meeting place, that serves good meals, and accommodates our needs.

The parking situation has been clarified. Every member who uses the valet parking downstairs at the St. Claire Hotel, can have their parking ticket validated by Ted in the office on the second floor before you leave. Just follow Secretary-Treasurer, Rob Nuddleman, and he will show you where to validate your tickets. Free parking downtown is a RARE commodity, but we got it, so use it!

We are in the process of arranging a guest speaker or program for every meeting to help keep the meetings exciting. Members Lynda Brown and Jerry Hall have stepped forward to organize our hotel and program arrangements, with your assistance.

With new members we are able to do more community service. Lori Formusa has volunteered to interview incoming members, assess their interests and guide them toward new or existing committees or projects that could use a helping hand.

The board is reviewing our finances and will discuss the budget at a special board meeting on September 3. Thanks to some belt tightening, a new and exciting fundraising plan and contributions from outside sources, our project fund is in great shape. We look forward to using those funds to increase our service to San Jose and raise the public’s awareness of Exchange and all it does.

In short, we are making progress. I am grateful to all the members who have rolled up their sleeves and done the work necessary to assure that San Jose continues to thrive.

Loosing a friend…

We are saddened by Cathy Keil’s resignation from membership because of her move from the area. A Past President of Exchange, Cathy has always been one of the powerhouses in the club. Her exuberance and enthusiasm brought a new level of excitement to every club activity or project that she participated in. She always volunteered to help and added nothing but positive energy to the whole club. We will sorely miss her and her husband Ron and his dry humor, an interesting counterpoint to Cathy’s bubbly personality. We hope to stay in touch Cathy, so don’t be a stranger.

Accepting the divine privilege, of single and collective responsibility as life's noblest gift, I covenant with my fellow Exchangites:

To consecrate my best energies to the uplifting of Social, Religious, Political and Business ideals;

To discharge the debt I owe to those of high and low estate who have served and sacrificed that the heritage of American citizenship might be mine;

To honor and respect law, to serve my fellow men, and to uphold the ideals and institutions of my Country;

To implant the life-giving, society-building spirit of Service and Comradeship in my social and business relationships;

To better serve in Unity with those seeking better conditions, better understanding and greater opportunities for all.
