Christmas for the Kids - December 14th
The SJPOA is currently considering our request to allow us to use their hall on December 14th for this year's Christmas for the Kids. Thanks to John Font, we may be able to have more time than last year to prepare for the event and find gifts for all the children. We regularly feed beteen 70 and 80 kids, plus some of their family members and/or counselors, at our annual event, with a special visit from Santa. So Mark your calendars and contact John Font to find out how you can help.
For those of you who don't know your fellow exchangites' phone numbers by heart, you can view the entire list at http://www.sjexchangeclub.com/mlist/PL2/mlist.html. You will need to know our username and password which can be obtained by emailing our secretary at rob@sjexchangeclub.org.
Which brings us to another topic. Did you know you that each S.J. Exchange Club member has an email at SJExchangeclub.org. If you want to send an email to any member, just send it to [name]@sjexchangeclub.org (substituting the member's first name, of course). The only exceptions are John Font and John Pluff, where the email must indicate "JohnF" or "JohnP". Members do not have to worry about setting up an additional email because the emails are automatically forwarded to the members' existing emails. Just another way your secretary/web hoster is taking care of you.
Rob and Lydia's 6th Anniversary is October 3rd. Congratulations and we all wish you many more years of wedded bliss.
If you have an event, birthday, holiday or other announcement that you would like to see in the Exciter, email Rob Nuddleman at rob@sjexchangeclub.org.
A Message From theExecutive Vice President of the National Exchange Club
Exchange Leaders --
It's official! National President Jerry DeFeo has announced that the popular Stand Up America program will be conducted September 1 through November 30. With its 90-day trial offer, Stand Up America has become Exchange's most successful membership recruitment program. More than 2,100 new members have been recruited through the program, which was initiated in 2002.
Stand Up America is a unique opportunity for your club to dramatically increase its size and outreach. Since the program will be conducted beginning September 1, time is of the essence. Kits are being prepared for distribution.
As soon as the cards are printed, you will be sent a quantity first class so you can begin your recruiting immediately. Of course, clubs can use the on-line Stand Up America membership certification form which will be on our Web site beginning September 1.
The appeal of the Stand Up America! program is in the offer of a free 90-day membership. This is a true club, district and national partnership. The National Board has agreed to waive one quarter of dues to national and to participate, your district must also waive one quarter of dues for Stand Up America members. Clubs must also waive dues in a similar fashion, however, it is understood that this may not include meal charges. The new member initiation fee of $15 will be billed to clubs 90 days after the Stand Up America member has joined. Please note that the pro-rated dues will not be charged for Stand Up America members.
Clubs with Stand Up America! members will receive a quarterly billing statement showing a charge and an offsetting credit for each SUA member. That's 90 days of free membership in America's Greatest Service Club!
This year we are on a mission this year to attain membership growth in Exchange and Stand Up America will be an important part in our success. This is the perfect time for this popular program. In the month of September many Exchange Clubs across the country will be sponsoring Healing Fields or Patriot Day events. We are also preparing for a presidential election. It's time to Stand Up America!
Thanks in advance for your help in promoting Stand Up America!.

Covenant of Service
Accepting the divine privilege, of single and collective responsibility as life's noblest gift, I covenant with my fellow Exchangites:
To consecrate my best energies to the uplifting of Social, Religious, Political and Business ideals;
To discharge the debt I owe to those of high and low estate who have served and sacrificed that the heritage of American citizenship might be mine;
To honor and respect law, to serve my fellow men, and to uphold the ideals and institutions of my Country;
To implant the life-giving, society-building spirit of Service and Comradeship in my social and business relationships;
To better serve in Unity with those seeking better conditions, better understanding and greater opportunities for all.

Terr Christensen - San Jose State University Political Science Professor
We welcomed Terry Christensen back last week as he provided a follow-up presentation on politics in California. Terry provided his informed opinions regarding Governor Schwarzenegger, likely results in California regarding the upcoming November elections, and the political climate in California. Dr. Christensen is an insightful speaker and it was a pleasure to have him with us. Dr. Christensen even provided a possible school for that we can work with in our Young Citizenship Project.
