Thanks to all the new members who offered to fill some important
rolls in our club this year. Brenda Biggs joins Bonita Gibson and Jose Posadas
as our PR committee. They will be in charge of getting our name out in the community
and advertising our events in the Valley log and other weekly publications and
media. Toward that end whenever anyone books a speaker please make sure the
PR committee members know at least a week in advance so they can get it into
the papers. I would encourage those members to meet soon and plan a division
of labor.
In addition to serving on the PR Committee, Jose volunteered to be our PR contact for my project, the Blue & Gold Wounded in Service Award Banquet honoring law enforcement officers who have been injured or killed in the line of duty. This is a very high profile project and last year drew State Attorney General Bill Lockyer. We meet next month November 13 at 6 PM in my office at 95 S. Market Street, Suite 500, if you are interested in participating.
Diane Lopes is already heavily involved as our Wen Mistress and has volunteered to work with Lynda Brown to have another "Sunshine Special" a special outing for underprivileged kids that may not have the opportunities other kids have today in Silicon Valley especially in these hard times.
This is a great program that we have been unable staff for lack of members for a few years now. You have no idea of the joy you will receive when you see smiles on these kids faces when they catch their first fish, or see their first Cinemax movie or see the Mystery House, just a few of the outings we've taken them too.
Harold Wray has also volunteered to serve on the blue & Gold
Committee.
Ursula Joosten volunteered to assist in getting speakers or programs
for our meetings. She will work with Jerry Hall and the respective captains
of the day to make sure we have a full program throughout the year. She has
also expressed and interest in helping with a new "Sunshine Special."
There are plenty of opportunities for growth and leadership believe
me. Just call me and ask me what needs to be done. 408-293-6341.
One last thing. We committed to double the size of this club by the end of my
term. This is absolutely necessary in order to continue to have qualified leaders
picking up the reins as I end my term. We need to be thinking ahead to next
March planning for our elections of new officers.
We must contact to attract new members and retain existing ones. This is not my job alone, but yours. Please, bring a guest or prospective member to the next meeting. See you next week!
