Thanks to the help of the members of the Exchange Club of San Jose, we put on great Christmas party for the kids this year. Bruce Newgren did an excellent job as head chef, especially with Lynda Brown, Rob Nuddleman, Jan Hahn, Jim Gunderson, Jon Renson and everybody else helping. Ursula Joosten and Jose Posadas rounded up all the delicious grub from the stores and delivered it with precision. Bonita Gibson headed the decorations, but everybody pitched in. Dan Webb brought the Christmas Tree (with a little help from Rob). Lori Formusa was the true "Go To Girl" by getting all the last minute items, including the DELICIOUS pies. Phil Griego made an gracious host and it would not have been the same without jolly old Saint Nick (a.k.a. Jerry Hall).
We also owe many thanks to the Scotts Valley club and the Fremont club for coming to our district luncheon and helping out. Some of the members wrapped presents and helped decorate. The Scotts Valley club generously donated $350.00 towards the presents we purchase for the kids. The Deputy Sheriff's Association also donated $500.00. Of course we cannot forget the generosity of the San Jose Police Officer's Association who let us use their facilities.
We served approximately 80 children, plus their parents and counselors. The Junior Exchange did a wonderful job serving and cleaning up. They are truly an asset to our organization. We hope to have pictures up soon so those who missed the event can see what a wonderful time everyone had without them. :)
Thanks again to everyone who put in the extra effort to make the annual Christmas party a success.
The Tri-Valley Exchange Club at Lawrence Livermore National Lab would like to extend an invitation to our sister clubs in the Bay Area. Please join us on March 18 as our guest speaker Terry Turchie, Director of the Labs Security Awareness for Employees Program, discusses "In Pursuit of Justice: The War on Terrorism." Turchie, a former FBI agent, has extensive experience in investigating both domestic and international terrorists. He led the FBI team that investigated and eventually arrested "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski. Prior to coming to the Lab, Turchie had overall responsibility for managing the FBIs counterterrorism program.
The Tri-Valley Exchange Club meets at the Livermore Lab located
off Vasco Road in Livermore. Meetings run from 12 noon to 1 PM. Driving time
from the Oakland area is 30-45 minute, depending on traffic. Driving instructions
are available on the Web at: http://www.llnl.gov/llnl/05community/directions.html
Because the Lab is a national security facility, guests must be
U.S. citizens, and badging is required for access. Badging requires the following
information from all attendees:
For badging purposes, please RSVP to Ann Willoughby, at willoughby1@llnl.gov by February 7. I will need to know the number of attendees from your club and the above information for each attendee. Attendees should plan on arriving at the LLNL Badge Office by 11:30 AM to assure they make the start of our meeting at 12 noon. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at (925) 423-4234.

Each year the Exchange Club of Scotts Valley participates in
the Scotts Valley Holiday Light Cruise. This event is a light parade where
people throughout the town do elaborate decorations on their homes. The
City prepares a map, and all along the route people drive by and drop off canned
goods which are then donated to the Valley Churches United holiday food drive.
The club runs one of the five stops along the way. At each stop, for a
donated can you can pull a card, which is mark with the suit and card face on
a poker run card. At the end, the poker run cards are turned
in and prizes are given out for the best poker hand. This
gives and incentive to drive through the whole thing and at the same time, brings
in money and food for the needy.
The event is Saturday, Dec. 14th. It starts at 4:45 in front of the World
Gym at 105 Whispering Pines Drive in Scotts Valley.
The club members dress real warm and bring Christmas goodies and appetizers
to snack on.There is usually a little wine, too.
It is one of Scotts Valley's fun social events they do each year, and some folks
bring kids to help with the cars, to hand out candy canes, etc.
Hope you can make it.
Saturday evening we met at Phil's house for our annual Christmas Social and White Elephant Gift Exchange. It was great. Everybody had a great time and walked away with some wonderfully interesting gifts. Some guests stayed well into the wee hours of the morning! Thanks to Phil and Diane for opening their home.
